Named vs Floating licenses
Named licenses are assigned to a specific person and can only be used by that person. It can only be installed and activated on this person’s computer.
Floating licenses can be shared between multiple co-workers and installed on multiple computers or servers. Only one person per purchased floating license can use it at the same time.
HelpNDoc Update Policy
When you purchase HelpNDoc, you get free updates and priority support for one full year from the date of purchase.
- Yours to keep: Any version you download during that year is yours to use forever. It’s a perpetual license and you can keep using it as long as it works on your system.
- No required renewals: After the one-year period, you can choose whether to renew your license. You’re never required to buy an update and your current version will continue to work.
- Renewal option: If you do want to access newer versions and continued priority support after your update period ends, you can purchase an update at a discounted price.

Free Personal Edition
The Personal Edition of HelpNDoc is completely free, without any limitation in time, for personal use (this means for non-profit and non-commercial uses) and evaluation purposes. The only differences between the free Personal Edition of HelpNDoc and the purchased full versions are some advanced features missing, and a discreet banner displayed at the bottom of each page, which looks like the following screenshot:

What are the differences between the Standard and Professional Edition ?
The Standard Edition can only generate CHM and HTML documentation formats without banners while the Professional Edition can generate all documentation formats without any banners. Both can be used for commercial purposes and profit.
What are the differences between the Named and Floating licenses ?
Named licenses can only be used by one specific person and installed on her own computer. It is not possible to share a named license with anyone (co-worker, friend, family member…). A named license can only be activated on a maximum of 2 (two) personal computers at a time. Floating licenses can be shared between an unlimited number of people within an organization as long as only one person per purchased floating license is using the software at a given time. It can be installed on multiple computers or servers. A floating license server is provided to “lease” licenses to the correct number of people.
Do you offer discounts for non-profit purposes, e.g. educations, governments ?
For non-profit purposes, you can acquire HelpNDoc at a discounted price. You must choose between the different editions and licenses of HelpNDoc, then contact us with a proof of membership to a non-profit organization (e.g. using an official e-mail address from that organization) and we will provide additional details.
Do I need an additional license if I plan to use HelpNDoc on a build server ?
It depends on your specific requirements:
- If the build server’s license is only used by yourself, you could purchase one named license for yourself and install it on two computers you own;
- If the build server’s license is used by someone else, you’ll need a proper license for that person;
- If the build server’s license is shared between multiple people, you’ll need a floating license.
